Hearing

1 in 6 Australians has a hearing loss. 1 in 2 people over the age of 75 has a hearing loss that requires a hearing aid.

In childhood a mild hearing loss can lead to delays in speech, learning and development.

For adults, the impact of hearing loss can be as minor as the embarrassment when a misunderstanding occurs or it can be serious causing major miscommunication at work and/or in relationships.

Hearing Assessments for adults & children

We can test the hearing of people from the age of 6 months to mature adults. We use a range of hearing tests and take a detailed history so that we fully understand the situations where hearing difficulties are experienced. This process ensures that we are able to provide you with the best hearing solution to suit your needs.

Hearing aids

Hearing aid prescription is based on the residual hearing of the client, the dynamics of speech signal (soft and loud sounds of speech), the filtering of very loud sounds to avoid discomfort, the choice of controls on the aids, programming of situational variations such as music or phone programs, comfort of the aids and cosmetic considerations.

Our clinicians are able to guide you through the multitude of factors that you need to consider when choosing hearing aids. We provide information about latest hearing aid styles and hearing aid features to get the best results for your hearing.

Listening Devices and Telephones

Hearing the television clearly and being able to communicate by telephone are high priorities for our clients. We have available a range of TV devices and telephones for increasing volume for those who need a hearing boost.

Assessment of Auditory Processing Disorder

Auditory Processing Disorder (APD) is a listening disorder where children experience problems in the processing of auditory (sound) information. While a child with APD has normal hearing, he/she may have difficulty concentrating in background noise, responding to verbal instruction and learning in the classroom. We assess Auditory Processing Disorder at our Lindfield Clinic.

Hearing protection

Hearing is a precious resource that when cared for will ensure good communication into maturity. We provide specialised earplugs  for people exposed to loud noise including loud music.
