What is a manual volume control hearing aid? A manual or wheel volume control is a standard hearing aid fitting. The wheel can turn the hearing aid up to make it louder, or down to making it softer or turn it off. Advantages The client has more control over this hearing aid than an automatic hearing aids.
Disadvantages The client must have good dexterity to use the volume control. It can be difficult to get the correct volume level in different situations. For example in a shopping centre where you may pass a screaming toddler or eat in a noisy restaurant and want to turn your aid down, then you enter a shop with a quietly spoken shop assistant, you will need to turn your volume up.
Who will benefit? Clients who have previously used hearing aids over a number of years appreciate the manual control on a hearing aid. Experienced users of hearing aids can often use the volume control very effectively. |
